A pioneer of Los Angeles streetwear culture, XLarge started as a shop in the LA neighborhood of Los Feliz, on Vermont street in 1991. Opened by Eli Bonerz and Adam Silverman, the store catered to their diverse community and was quickly adopted by personalities such as Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Spike Jonez and Chloe Sevigny. The XLarge clothing brand was a true reflection of its surroundings and Los Angeles lifestyle. The brand drew inspiration from workwear, vintage and club scene aesthetics; to mid-century design, skateboarding and music influences. Iconic for its Gorilla logo, XLarge is established as one of the originals and continues to influence generations of streetwear culture worldwide.

Founded on the ethos of making real clothes for real girls, X-Girl gave life to the representation of young women in streetwear culture.

Created in the Summer of ’94 as a sister brand to X-Large, X-Girl was brought to life by Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and X-Large store girl and stylist Daisy Von Furth. An expression of their rejection of mainstream fashion culture, X-Girl was born out of a desire to make clothing that girls like them wanted to wear.

With Chloe Sevigny as their front girl and graphics designed by Mike Mills, the label was loved by everyone from collaborator Sofia Coppola to label devotee Kathleen Hanna. It’s roots cemented in the vibrant New York scene of the 90’s, X-Girl continues to echo the 90s cool girl, creating real clothes for real girls.

OBEY started with an absurd sticker Fairey created in 1989 while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design. The OBEY campaign is rooted in the Do It Yourself counterculture of punk rock and skateboarding, but it has also taken cues from popular culture, commercial marketing and political messaging and has since evolved into a worldwide street art campaign, as well as an acclaimed body of fine art.
